Thanks for sharing, gloria_scott!
It must take a lot of time to gather all those screen-caps; you must be very patient!

I thought you all would have fun with "An Ideal Husband". I noticed when I watched it that he must have had dry lips during production; I've never seen his tongue so much in one role! Does he EVER do that as Holmes? I know he did as Freddy at least twice in the "Show Me" scene (it's sad I remember that), but those seemed more part of the acting than just a pause in speech, if you know what I mean. The still where he's sticking his tongue out at Mabel looks especially odd when not in motion.

Why is it when I watch him in this one I just want to play it from the beginning again? Afterward my siblings and I go about the house quoting almost every line he says until I want to stick the DVD in again! Is there something wrong with me or does anyone else get that urge?

When I watched it the first time through, I only noticed the tongue once or twice. It's when I started doing the frame by frame for the caps that I was like, "Holy cow, there it is again! And again!"

Even though it does take some time to do the caps, it gives me the excuse to watch it again and really notice his performance and, especially in the case of the Granada series, how well their shot. And I always seem to find I have a grin on my face the whole time I'm doing it. I wonder why...

Aurgh! My eyes! Who designed the costumes for this? They need to be tarred and feathered in the streets! What did they do, just raid the nearest fancy dress hire shop? It's all so... synthetic!

Well, it was '69 - on the cusp of the '70's as it were. I think for me it was the fake eyelashes that were most distracting.

I had NO idea he was also in An Ideal Husband or I'd have bought the Oscar Wilde Collection ages ago.

I nearly bought it, but Netflix saved me. I wish they'd come out with a "Play of the Month" set, so we could see his other performances from that.
